- This MAY be partialy because of the fact that the modem includes
- the enhancements of the annex to v.34, but chances are that it's simply
- that the USR is a better modem then the generic v.34, which wouldn't take
- much. I had an Infotel (pretty generic) which would always connect at
- 21.6 to one board (which is known to have kinda crummy lines).
- Occasionally it would fall-forward to 24.0, but it seemed a tad unstable
- at those speeds. Previously I had a Motorola Power which would always
- make a 24.0/26.4 connection (the generic didn't support assymetric speed,
- the Motorola does), which would occasionally fall forward to 26.4/26.4,
- and was always quite stable. This was calling a Supra. I had similar
- results with many other modems (although the phone lines are good enough
- around here that even the Infotel could manage 28.8 connections quite a
- bit, especially when calling USRs).
